Field Project Progress
September 24, 2007
I spent time this week researching the social studies standards because I’m not familiar with them. I have begun compiling a list of social studies standards and technology standards that I believe will be addressed in my instructional unit. I was supposed to meet with the fourth grade teacher I’ll be working with on Friday (9/21) but she was sick. We will be meeting on 9/25 instead. At that time I’ll know more of the specifics of the topic we’ll be doing within the class’s unit on Pennsylvania.

This week I met with the fourth grade teacher I will be working with. We have decided to refocus our project on a social studies topic instead of science. The class will be starting a unit on “Pennsylvania” the first week in October, so the timing seems good for this project. we talked about using the Palm handhelds as a possibility, as well as GoogleEarth and PowerPoint to prepare something about the five regions of Pennsylvania. We decided to continue brainstorming ideas on our own this weekend, and then meet for lunch next week to solidify our ideas.
Idea for Field Project

I am currently teaching in an elementary school so I have easy access to several classroom teachers for my project. I’ve brainstormed with a fourth grade teacher about doing a Palm handheld project with her class. We would use the GoKnow suite of software to create KWL charts, wordmaps, Sketchy animations, short text files, and simple drawings that would all be linked together as one project. The topic will probably be science related – either electric circuits or motion & design.
